  1. Version 2: Added the subsidiary protection route, the 2024 change from "may" to "should" for the highly qualified, and the earlier history: the 2012 Blue Card law (33 or 21 months) and the 2020 Skilled Immigration Act (four years, 48 months).

  2. Version 2: Correction: the earlier version dated the 2024 reform only by its March 2024 publication, but its rules applied from 27 June 2024. This version adds that date, the pre-2024 seven-year and six-year routes, the Gazette texts of both laws, the Bundestag vote of 8 October 2025, the transitional rule, the rule for spouses of Germans and source dates.

  3. Version 2: Corrected the opening, which gave only percentages: it now states the 2026 minimum salaries of 50,700 and 45,934.20 euros, and the official 2024 and 2025 amounts for every route.

  4. Version 2: Corrected: version 1 led with the last quarter of 2026 as the current plan. No start date is confirmed. eu-LISA's latest update, on 24 September 2026, gave none. Added every official start date since 2018 and the fee's legal basis.

  5. Version 2: Corrected: the record said the phased start was only set for 12 October 2025 and left out the roll-out steps and the summer 2026 option to pause biometric checks, which ended in September; all are now added from the law's text.

  6. Version 2: Added a table of notable thresholds and their base amounts from the PRA's Appendix 3, the full proposed update timetable to July 2041, rounding and transition rules, and the manual threshold increases of November 2025 and March 2026. Added source publication dates and removed a link to a retired record.

  7. Version 2: Corrected: we said the date of the £20 fee was not known. Home Office fee tables show £16 from 9 April 2025 and £20 from 8 April 2026. Added every nationality phase, Jordan’s removal and the 25 February 2026 enforcement.

  8. Version 2: Corrected the summary, which said passport fees cover the government's costs. GOV.UK says they move the Home Office towards a user-funded system, and its own data shows every fee below cost. Added fast-track, premium and overseas fees, the fee regulations and source dates.
